Medical Checklist: What to Check Before Your First Aquatic Education Session
Dr. Mihaela Niță – Physician specialist pediatrician
A baby's first experience in water can be wonderful, but it's important for parents to ensure the environment is safe and age-appropriate.
1. Pool exclusivity
The pool is exclusively for babies. and children kitty, is it also used by other age groups? Exclusivity reduces the risk of contamination and allows for more rigorous control.
2. Human trafficking within the club
How many people do you meet when you take your baby to the pool? Is it a dedicated space also used by a few other children of similar ages (1-2), under the same conditions as you, or is it a crowded space with many people of different ages and different needs?
3.Water treatment system
Ask what type of disinfection is used and how water parameters are maintained. Modern systems reduce the need for chlorine and ensure stability.
4. Water temperature
Babies need a water temperature above 30°C to engage in adequate and comfortable activity in the aquatic environment. A lower temperature can lead to the rapid onset of thermal discomfort, manifested by shivering, paleness, or cyanosis of the skin. Maintaining a constant temperature adapted to age is essential for the child's safety and well-being.
5.Hygiene procedures
Is a shower mandatory before entry? Are there clear rules for access? Firm procedures are a sign of responsibility.
6. Training of aquatic specialists
Do specialists have specific training for working with babies? Do they understand the neuro-motor development and medical particularities of this age?
7.Medical Collaboration
Is there actual medical advice behind the concept? Are the standards built with professional involvement or is it purely commercial?
Conclusion
Baby swimming can bring real benefits, but the environment must be adapted to their physiology. An informed parent is a protective parent.
